The Selfish Business (How To Ensure Your Offer Resonates With The Market)

Someone left this comment on my post the other day:

“Having a good product makes your offer so much better”.

And as much as I love to engage with my commenters, I can’t help but point out the idiocy here.

You don’t design a product without having an offer.

It’s putting the cart before the horse.

You’re supposed to create the offer first.

Herein lies the problem with how people think about sales and making offers in general.

They think they can just “become a copywriter” or “make a product” and then learn how to sell it later.

But it simply doesn’t work like that.

Why?

Because you’re not taking the customer into account.

You’re thinking about yourself and what you want.

Whereas, If you want to sell something and actually make money, you need to give the market what they want.

That means starting with the market, listening to them, understanding their problems, and then designing your product.

It’s the cheat code to making creating great products and services

Here’s how you can think about it…

Your businesses’ whole purpose is to help people.

Helping people provides value (and people pay for that stuff).

Specifically, your business helps someone go from a position of pain to a desired outcome.

You assist in a transformation from pain to success.

I call this process Pain Transmutation.

Here’s the formula:

  1. Choose a niche

  2. Understand their current situation

  3. Understand their desired situation

  4. Understand what’s stopping them from getting there (blockers)

  5. Design a solution which addresses those blockers

You then use this information to create your offer.

And if you’ve done your research correctly, it will immediately resonate with the market.

Because it’s built around what they want. Not what you want.

Never forget:

Sales (and business) is about transforming the lives of other people for the better by solving their painful problems. Your product or service is just a means to make that happen.

The offer comes first, the solution is secondary.

If you want a step-by-step guide (including video) on how to go through this process:

  1. Choose your niche

  2. Do market research

  3. Create your offer
